I do have to admit that back then I didn't think too much about curating when it came to photography or really anything. My family and I would infact just keep buying film rolls for our cameras or those disposables cameras, we would take a photo of just about anything; Also we would save just about anything and that was put in my head, "We never know when we are going to need it later, so save now because things aren't cheap." As I grew older, I was very into keeping things neat and organized and going through my photography I always wonder, "Why was this taken", "When was this taken", "This one was a waste of film" and so on. Only when I entered high school did I use a site by the name called, "Photobucket" to store my photos in their individual files and photos I would find on the web randomly. Oh did it make everything so much easier starting to curate what really needed too.
Forward, curating assets this month has absolutely allowed me to create better-than-I expected results that do reflect a much more pro-look in my projects. Using Symbaloo has allowed me to store what I want for a later time and not want I don't need. NetVibes has helped keep all my current sites up to date and at quick reach to access in one stop read on what's going on as well. I started to put my phone apps I've downloaded in respected 'fun' category files, that they would fall properly under for quick and easy access everytime. It really is so much easier to just save minimal than to over save; And than later on you wonder why or for what? What I have kept thus far has been worth keeping, and very helpful for working on projects and looking back on assignments I've done, also helps me to work on current and future ones even better.
Curating habits that I have now developed due to my experiences in New Media Tools, getting my apps back into the category order files they respectfully belong in for easy access use everytime. Having my school work assignments and projects in one place to submit them in a quickly professional manner. Curating this month really was an eye opener for me, and it got me to really continue of a path that I can stick on. I do love researching, and now I feel I can research in an even smarter way thanks to New Media Tools for it has shown me how to keep what's important in their files and chuck out what's not so much.
I think the authors of the "Curations Before Creation" and the "Not All Digital Assets Are Equal" articles believe that curating quality assets is a better approach than curating quantity of assets when it comes to raising the bar of my creativity, is spot on. You want a quick and smooth process in your work when dealing with the public and clients. If you're always clicking away at the shutter of the camera or your phone, you still miss it on camera because you weren't really focused because you were too busy trying to capture it on film. When things are in respected categories it's much easier to access them when you need them, rather scrolling through millions of photos to find and pick the very best one that fits with what you are working on at that moment; It doesn't have to be photography, yet it can be anything else. Therefore, simply keeping things in it's respected place makes for a more stress free, simple lifestyle and much more time for even more important little things in life that we naturally miss everyday.
